pansies are the first flowers one can bring home from your local nursery to plant in the ground or in pots here on long island. they are considered cool weather favorites that last up until early summer. since their petals are edible, you can also use them to decorate salads & cupcakes. I brought home this flat last week and felt lucky to get them planted before last weekend.

Your pansies are beautiful colors. I have a tub of them too, with a rain gauge in the center of them. My son and daughter-in-law gave them to me for my birthday last month. So cheerful!

All the 'chi chi' buildings that front West End Avenue have pansies and daffs in their 'gardens' (those wrought iron low fenced areas around the city planted trees) as well as the planters some of the older bldgs have out front ...
springtime on the island...but not in manhattan!

You and I have swapped places.
We brought the children up in Huntington and Centerport and I miss my LI garden
So, we can't have EVERYTHING... but wouldn't it be nice!
Pansies don't last long here, so I never get them. But I love to see them in cooler places.
I didn't know pansy petals were edible! Beautiful flowers. Nice to have something planted in the garden already.
