the allium

allium are members of the onion family & depending on their variety, the flower heads range in size from an inch to a foot! supposedly the stems give off only a slight onion odor when cut or crushed. I love them just as they are seen displayed here at the farmingdale state college teaching garden. isn't this  a wonderful scene?

What a beautiful lavender scene. When the page opened my first reaction was, Wow!

You must be a night-owl, either that or you've moved to the west coast, which I'm sure you haven't.

love the crazy space-orb-like alliums! I've never been to the Farmingdale garden, someday I'll have to make a point of visiting.

Nice shot! My grandmother use to have these in her backyard and they were always one of my favorites.

What an awesome exquisite scene! Onions here don't flower so i haven't seen one like that, wonderful indeed. The slightly blurred umbel at the left is also worth a close-up shot. The colors made them more alluring. thank you.

these are quite hilarious and remind me of Dr Seuss. My mom used to plant these and I agree about the onion smell. I always thought they were veggies.
