commuters

please click on the photo to enlarge for more details

everyday thousands of people commute between long island and manhattan. some people drive, but the majority take the long island railroad. whenever I pick my husband up from the train station I notice all of the different type of people getting off the train. I imagine their different occupations by the way they dress. there are construction workers, office workers, students, etc. some people look like they have been commuting their whole life and are perfectly content, others look like they are very tired. how do you get to work?

My route to work is 11 kilometers and has 2 busses. Takes 40 minutes. 20 minutes with own car. I´m happy with that, it´s not so long.

Good morning.

For some years I commuted by trolley and then subway from suburbs to city.

Then for a year or so it was a train.

For the last 18 years of my working life, I lived 5 minutes from work, and did drive much of the time so the car would be available to go somewhere after work. BUT, I never drove the same way 2 days in a row. I liked to take the time to try different routes to see what my neighbors were planting in their gardens, and what else was going on around me.

Perfect timing on the Long Island Railroad. This blog site has really inpired me. I have included a link to it on my own site, where I recently added an entry about my own home in nearby Queens. I'm far too long winded to add entries daily (nor would I dream of stealing your thunder here). The LIRR palys an important part in my neck of the woods as well, and is also my choice for commuting home (I take A Queens to Manhattan Express Bus in the A.M.) Please feel free to drop by and say hello. Tell your friends, and spread the word. We blogger's need to stick together. Keep up the good work here,
Morty

I like the angle the photo was taken at and how you captured so much in one photo - the train, the sun, the commuter, and the car. I like people-watching myself, especially when you find a real character.

Hi Chrome3D, you sound like your commute is manageable. Do you find your awesome cloud shots along the way? Everyone should be checking out your blogs. They are wonderful to look at

I'm one of those tired commuters, and I've only been doing it for 3 years! Hopefully I won't spend my entire life on the train like my father did, but I just can't bear to move from Long Island yet...especially in the summer!

I either drive 3 mins to Starbucks or 10 mins to the office or 45 mins to the airport.

I'd take a train to DFW if there was one!
