do you see anything odd about this photo?

I can't remember the last time I bought gas and paid under $3 a gallon for it! the man at the gas station saw me taking photos and promptly asked me if I was taking pictures for newsday. I tried to explain that I needed the pics for my long island daily photo blog but I could tell he had no idea what I was talking about. he then told me the reason gas prices were down was because of the upcoming election and that once the election was over, prices would go back up. I told him I thought it had more to do with the current economic crisis and how the powers that be sense the american peoples frustration with their pockets being picked so they figure they better lower the gas prices before there is a revolt. the attendant told me that as long as the parking lots are full at the bars on friday nights, this will never happen. whatever the case may be, I am very happy gas prices are down.
this man is originally from turkey. I always find it interesting to get someones else's perspective on america, especially if they were born and raised in another country. so which is odder to you, our current gas prices, or my conversation with the gas station attendant?
today is odd shot monday. please go here to see more "odd" shots.

Explaining what a daily photo is can be tricky. I don't thinkthose prices are going to last. Days like these I'm glad I liev on an island and don't need to dirve.
Its a good feeling isn't it to watch the numbers go down. Our prices are in litres but the feeling is the same!Lets hope they continue to decline!

Economy is a complex matter in which a lot of drives are playing a role, which I do not understand and since a lot of these drives are not so ethical, it is best that I do not know it all because it would be very upsetting and unchangeable by me, and thus : frustrating. Anyway, the bank crisis is spreading all over the world and everyone of us suffers the consequences. From the bank crisis to the gas prices and the practical approach of the Turkish man : yes, I would tend to agree with him, but what do I know ?? P.S. Your question about the painting : it took about 28 hours.

Your conversation wasn't odd. the prices are crazy. 2.71 here last time I looked - probably lower today. But the same chain is charging different prices depending on location. That's just not right. And it's at least ten cents higher in tourist areas.
Just yesterday my bf was saying that gas seems to always go down around election time. I agree with him. Our gas hasn't gotten below $3 yet.

In Italy gas prices are sky-high, Lily! Fortunately the new cars don't use much petrol.

Hey Babooshka, I live on an island too! LOL. I wish that meant we didn't have to drive so much. We do have a nearby island called Block Island that you don't really need a car to visit. But you do need a bicycle.

Yes Mamc, it is a good feeling, no matter how temporary.

Hildegarde, I know I will probably never figure it out. The Turkish man also said we should never let any news outside of our immediate family affect us. He said our main concern is that we have food & shelter. I can see where he is coming from, but I don't agree with that.

thanks Bobbie.

Hi Wayfaring W.
Interesting & I see you live in North Carolina. Your photographs are beautiful btw.
; )

Thanks for saying that Pietro. I was hoping some of my European friends would chime in!

NOPE!!!... What's strange about it???...

Yes but not so very odd .. supply and demand .. people lose their life savings and cant afford to fill their tanks so the demand for gas dwindles and the prices go down .. sad that it took people losing their retirement money for this to happen ... Nov 4 cannot come soon enough for me

Dear Lily
I loved your recent picture of Little Switzerland dolls.
We used to live in Huntington where my daughter Claudia Schmid grew up.
Hey Harriet in Australia loved Claudia's photos so much, she started Shadow Shot Sunday.
Talk about 6 degress of seperation - and the world wide web.
Greetings from Manhattan.

Not too long ago, Americans would have considered $2.99/gallon an oddly (painfully) HIGH price to pay...

Definitely odd for this recession.

Gas prices, while down considerably here, are still much higher than what you show in your photo. $3.50 a gallon is the norm at many Bay Area stations, though "Louis" paid $3.399 at Costco over the weekend. Whatever the reason, "Louis" is happy to see the prices fall....

You are four cents lower than I have seen here. The price of crude ahs gone down, so the price of gas has--so you are certainly closer than he. It will continue to go down, but it will not go down as far as the price when it started to spike. That's what happened in the 70s. Folks were so delighted that it had gone down that they didn't squawk about the fact that it was half again more than it had been originally. I'm glad it's down, though, and hope that your Turk is wrong about the rise after the election as we will be traveling.

Hello!

For instance fisher can't work.
when he work, he use a lot of gasline.
I hope it will go down:)

how strange about the price decrease?
was this something the guy initiated, or it's a customary thing to do?

I'm sorry, the only odd thing I can see is how cheap your gas is! Still, it's obviously decidedly Odd for you!

Oddest is the "Full Serve". I didn't think anyone still did that, lol.

They are happy that we are happy about paying near three bucks a gallon... while it lasts.
He does have a point!! Going to the bars and restaurants are so expensive and a recreational activity.

So if the parking lots is full, it just means the guests aren't hurting in the pocket that much.
