skywatch over at nurseryland

please click on photo to see close up of bulging green eyes.

this is what I saw when I looked up at the sky at nurseryland in westbury. please go here if you'd like to see more captivating skies.
halloween is a pretty big holiday here on long island. people have been known to decorate their front lawns with giant blow up characters like the one shown above. some even string up orange or purple lights in their windows. mostly everyone gets a pumpkin or at least buys candy to give to the neighborhood children when they knock on their door for a trick or a treat. what is your favorite thing to do on halloween?

Halloween is not really in our culture in France ,but we usually carve a pumpkin and light it at night !

Gorgeous skies!

Plenty of giant blowups around here, too. The Jack-o-lantern is my favorite. When I was a kid, it was quite a production, laying aout newspaper, and Daddy getting the giant knife and giant spoon to cut and scoop, and deciding what kind of face to do this year.

Thanks for visiting and for the comments.

When we first moved here about 12 years ago, I was surprised at how popular Halloween is on LI.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love carving the pumpkin(s) into something different each year. One year, I did Elmo and another year a pug. I tried a jester one year, but he got messed up and became a moon and stars. :-)

Nice green eyes popping out! We don´t have halloween. I´m okay with that, soon there is enough holidays anyway.

I love the green buggy eyes - perfect front to the sky. Interesting how popular those inflatable statues have become, though I don't see them much around here.

I can't believe Halloween's here already! I remember one time on Halloween, I answered the door to a teenage girl without a costume, talking on her cellphone, and walking her golden retriever. She motioned her pillow case towards me so I'd put candy in it. That's probably one of my most interesting memories of halloween.

What's Nurseryland??

Lily Hydrangea said...

I thought the name was kind of funny too. Nurseryland is just a nursery as in garden center. It's not that big, but they have some neat plants. It's on Jericho Tpke. in Westbury. I always thought it looked pretty from the road so I finally stopped...for the sake of Long Island Daily Photo!
